High Security Locks for Auckland Homes

Not all locks offer the same level of protection. Standard locks sold at hardware stores are built to a price point. They do the job for most situations, but they're not designed to resist a determined attack. High security locks are built specifically to defeat the techniques used in most residential break-ins: picking, bumping, drilling, and the use of copied keys.

LockSmart is a certified Abloy dealer, supplying and installing high security locks across all of Auckland. We'll assess your existing setup, advise on the right hardware, and carry out the installation properly.

We’re also COA certified and police-checked by the Ministry of Justice, with a 4.9-star rating from over 950 Auckland customers.

What Makes a Lock High Security?

The term gets used loosely, but a genuine high security lock has to pass on several fronts at once:

Pick and Bump Resistance

Standard pin tumbler cylinders can be defeated quickly with basic tools. High security cylinders use more complex mechanisms, such as rotating discs or sidebar systems, that can't be manipulated using standard picking or bumping techniques.

Drill and Physical Attack Resistance

High security locks contain hardened steel inserts, anti-drill pins, and reinforced cylinder bodies. Physical attack takes significantly longer and requires specialised tools, which in practice means most attackers move on.

Key Control

This is where most standard locks fall short. Keys to standard cylinders can be copied at any hardware store or key-cutting booth in a couple of minutes. High security locks use patented key profiles that are legally protected. Blanks are only available to authorised dealers, and every copy is logged. That means you know exactly how many keys exist, and who holds them.

Build Quality

The tolerances, materials, and internal mechanisms of a high security cylinder are manufactured to a much higher standard than budget hardware. That translates to longer service life and consistent performance under pressure.

Abloy High Security Locks

As a certified Abloy dealer, LockSmart supplies and installs the full Abloy cylinder range. Abloy is a Finnish brand with a reputation built over more than a century, and is widely regarded as the most secure residential lock available in New Zealand.

Abloy uses a disc detainer mechanism rather than pins. The discs rotate to precise angles to allow the lock to open, which makes it inherently resistant to picking, bumping, and most forms of manipulation. Key profiles are patented and internationally registered, and copies can only be ordered from authorised dealers using a registered key card.

Abloy Protec2

The Protec2 is the flagship Abloy residential cylinder. Disc detainer mechanism, fully pick and bump proof, with a key profile protected by international patent. A registered key card is required for any additional copies. Available for most standard residential door preps and available in a range of finishes.

Abloy Classic

A trusted high security option for properties where the full Protec2 specification isn't required. Still a significant step up from standard residential hardware, with the same disc detainer technology Abloy is known for.

Who Should Consider High Security Locks?

High security locks aren't only for high-value homes. They're worth considering any time key control is a concern, security has been compromised, or standard hardware isn't giving you the confidence it should.

  • You've recently moved into a property and don't know how many keys are in circulation
  • You've experienced a break-in or attempted entry
  • You're in a higher-risk area or have had incidents nearby
  • Your property has a rental history and a large number of key copies may exist
  • You want to meet insurance requirements for specific coverage levels
  • You're replacing worn hardware and want to do it properly rather than replace like for like

Key Registration and Ongoing Control

When LockSmart installs an Abloy restricted key system at your property, the installation is registered to you. Any additional copies require your authorisation card and have to go through us. You know exactly how many keys exist and who holds each one.

If a key is not returned at the end of a tenancy, you're not in the dark. You know it's out there, and you can make an informed decision about whether to rekey.

Supply and Installation

LockSmart handles the whole job: assessing your door prep, sourcing the right hardware, and carrying out the installation. If your existing door furniture doesn't suit the new cylinder, we'll source what's needed or adapt what's there. The finish will match, and the installation will meet manufacturer specification.
